GRANDMA APPROVED BEAUTY REMEDIES

GRANDMA APPROVED BEAUTY REMEDIESGirls owe a lot to the one who invented make up and beauty products! After all, they are every girl’s best companion. Beauty care products are easily available commercially; every beauty problem has a solution in the market.

Gone are the times when there were no such products and we all relied upon what our mom and grandma suggested to use. Those solutions were not tested in labs, but were called effective by years of experience and self-usage! They still work wonders in treating various ailments as well as in beauty! If you ever witnessed, most of the “DIY Beauty Products” comprises of remedies and ingredients used taught to us by our grandma! Here are some of the Grandma-approved beauty remedies:

NO-HEAT CURLS: One of the simplest beauty tips from grandma is how to get gorgeous curls. You don’t need to damage your hair with curling tongs or perms. Instead, cut some fabric into strips and roll your hair up. Sleep in the rags overnight and you’ll have beautiful curls in the morning!

NATURAL KAJAL / KHOL: Earlier all babies had kohl rimmed eyes so that nobody can cast an evil eye on them! Natural herbal kajal was made at home using diya (lamp), desi ghee, powdered almonds, a little bark of neem and a piece of camphor. The dark soot was collected from steel plate placed upside down and mixed with desi ghee to be used as herbal natural kajal! DIY natural mascara >>

SATIN PILLOW CASE: Do you have a problem with flyaway hair? Sleeping on cotton pillowcases can cause static or friction. Choosing a satin fabric reduces static and is also believed by some to reduce the development of wrinkles, and help avoid allergies.

EYE TIPS: Are you plagued by dark circles under your eyes? Grandma has a few simple tricks to get rid of them. Either try a mixture of tomato and lemon juice, mix equal amount of tomato and lemon juice, gently apply it under your eyes and leave it on for 30 mins or overnight and rinse off with cold water. Puffy eyes can be dealt with by using slices of cucumber or chilled tea bags.

NATURAL SHAMPOOS: There were no commercial shampoos in earlier days. So what did everybody use to clean their hair? Shikakai , Reetha, hibiscus and other herbs were used as a natural hair cleanser! Shikakai and Reetha concoction was made by boiling them and rest of the herbs were added in water and was used instead of shampoo. DIY 15 homemade shampoo recipes >>

OLIVE OIL: Olive oil isn’t just for cooking – it can be used for a variety of beauty purposes as well. It’s full of antioxidants that will help protect your skin against pollution and skin damage. You can use it on your face and body, and it works well to condition cuticles. You can also use it on your hair.

NATURAL LIPSTICK: Women used to rub a rose petal/ beet root between their fingers and use it to stain their lips. I know you can get great shades of lip colour at virtually any drugstore or make-up counter, but if you’re stuck without one, a couple of rose petals or beetroot slices can be a great stand in. Plus, you know that roses/ beetroot are natural and organic and don’t contain some of the chemicals and dyes that traditional lipsticks do. They can also be used as cheek stain!
