HAIR MYTHS YOU SHOULD STOP BELIEVING

We are always in a lookout for beauty tips. You flip through pages of your favorite magazines, or research on the internet and you’d likely get a ton of advice. Surprisingly, a lot of it is inaccurate!! There are ton of beauty myths out there and it is important to separate fact from fiction.

HAIR MYTHS YOU SHOULD STOP BELIEVING

Whether you’ve got a pixie haircut or long locks, you probably have your own hair challenges to face and separating the myths from facts will help you concentrate on things that will actually help your hair grow healthier and look better.  Let us check out some of the hair myths that people actually consider as a fact:

MYTH 1– SHOWERING AND SHAMPOOING LEADS TO HAIR SHEDDING:

This is the biggest myth I’ve ever heard! If your hair is going to fall out, it will simply fall out irrespective of whether you are under a shower! The only thing is that it would be less noticeable when you are not in your bathroom (thanks, clogged drain!). There are people out there who would even blame the shampoo! People often loose hair in shower, so they associate shampooing and showering with shedding. Address the real problem- stress is often the culprit behind hair fall. It can also be genetic!

MYTH 2– THE MORE YOU BRUSH YOUR HAIR, THE HEALTHIER IT WILL BE:

If you’ve even been oppressed at the idea of running the brush 100 times a day through your hair, you’ll like this one: there is no value in brushing your hair more than you already do! The fact is, excessive brushing can actually damage your hair! it can do more harm than good. Over brushing can actually damage your hair cuticles making it rough and more prone to knots! Brush your hair only when it is required i.e. to remove knots, otherwise its ok even if you just let your hair be as it is. I myself have never brushed my hair in last 3 years (you may acknowledge this in my first post- the no shampoo method) and my hair is still healthy!

MYTH 3– TRIMMING YOUR HAIR FREQUENTLY MAKES IT GROW FASTER:

Hair growth has nothing to do with the trimming! Growth of hair is stimulated at the scalp and not the ends. Trimming only cuts off the hair splits (if you have any) and makes your hair appear fuller!

MYTH 4– A SHAMPOO THAT FOAMS WELL CLEANS WELL:

People, who believed this, let me clear out- foaming has got nothing to do with cleansing! (I have myself tested this in lab!) Shampoos don’t necessarily need to lather to get its job done. Sulphates are added in shampoos to make it lather, with many other harmful effects getting added along as well! I would suggest using shampoos that are sulphate-free or shampoos that contain glycerine as a foaming agent.

MYTH 5– IF YOU PLUCK ONE GREY HAIR, TWO WILL GROW BACK IN ITS PLACE:

This is the most common myth! You must have witnessed your friends and relatives warning you not to pluck your grey hair. This only seems true because one grey usually means more greys. This myth probably started because people plucked one grey hair, then noticed more afterwards! But please, don’t blame the plucking!!

MYTH 6- COMMERCIAL PRODUCTS CAN TREAT SPLIT ENDS:

There is no product invented yet that can treat your split ends! Yes you heard me right. The only thing you can do is cut them off. If cutting hair not your thing, you can make the splits less prominent by applying shea butter or beeswax containing hair cream.

Hope after reading these points, you guys know exactly what to believe and proclaim!
