The shampoos that are sold commercially are often made with sulfates and parabens. These ingredients are very harmful to the hair and can make the hair dry, frizzy and lead to hair breakage and hair fall or hair loss.

Here are 6 simple DIY shampoo recipes that you can try out:
1. Egg Shampoo
Egg helps increase hair thickness and maintains ideal hair health. it can improve hair appearance by making it look silky and reduce dry hair.
Ingredients:
1 egg
2 tbsp herbal shampoo
Method:
Beat one egg and add in 2 tbsp of any herbal shampoo of your choice. Use this shampoo to wash your hair like you normally would.
Caution: Never wash your hair with hot water when using homemade egg shampoos on your hair, as it heightens the smell of the egg.
2. Herbal Shampoo
Soapnuts are natural cleansers and help promote a healthy scalp. Shikakai helps treat hair fall. Dried amla helps boost hair growth and darkens the hair colour. Fenugreek seeds help thicken the hair.
Ingredients:
4 – 5 soapnuts
6 – 8 shikakai pods
6 – 8 dried amla
1 tbsp fenugreek seeds
4 cups water
Method:
Into a jar or bowl, add in the soapnuts (gently crushed), shikakai pods, dried amla and fenugreek seeds and soak this in 4 cups of water overnight. Cover this mixture with a lid.
The next morning, mix this well and pour it into a heating pot or saucepan and let it simmer for 10 to 15 minutes on low heat. After you turn off the flame, keep it covered until completely cool.
This shampoo can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Use this shampoo to wash your hair like you normally would.
3. Green Tea Shampoo
Green tea is a very powerful ingredient that can help increase hair growth and also reduce hair fall to a large extent. It helps lock in moisture in the air strands and keeps the hair away from dryness, breakage and split ends. Aloe vera can calm and ease itchiness on the scalp and protect the hair from damage.
Ingredients:
1 cup hot water
4 green tea bags
(Or 4 tsp green tea leaves)
¼ cup fresh aloe vera gel
¼ cup castile soap or soapnut liquid
Method:
Into a cup of hot water, add in the green tea bags and let it sit for 10 minutes.
(Optionally, if you do not have tea bags you can boil the tea leaves in a cup of water and set it aside for 10 minutes).
Then, strain out tea bags/tea leaves and pour this cooled green tea into a blender along with the fresh aloe vera gel and blend this into a smooth liquid. Thereafter, add in the castile soap or soapnut liquid and give it a quick blend.
The green tea shampoo mixture can be strained into a bottle and is ready to use.
This shampoo can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Use this shampoo to wash your hair like you normally would.

4. Coconut Shampoo
Using coconut shampoo can help reduce hair fall by penetrating deep into the hair shaft, preventing protein loss and also reduces it from getting damaged. It moisturizes the hair and promotes hair growth. Glycerin helps keep the hair soft and moisturized and works well on all types of hair.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup coconut milk
1/4 tbsp coconut oil
1/4 cup glycerin
1/2 cup liquid castile soap
Method:
Mix all the ingredients well in a bowl. Then transfer into a storage jar and keep refrigerated for up to a week.
Use this shampoo to wash your hair like you normally would.
5. Hair Wash Powder
Soapnuts are natural cleansers and help promote a healthy scalp. Shikakai helps treat hair fall and also increases hair thickness. Dried amla helps boost hair growth by strengthening the hair follicles and darkens the hair colour, which is helpful to reduce and also prevent premature greying of hair. Hibiscus acts like a natural hair conditioning agent.
Ingredients:
3 tbsp soapnut or shikakai powder
2 tbsp fenugreek powder
2 tbsp hibiscus powder
1 tbsp amla powder
1 tbsp liquid castile soap (optional)
½ tsp hair oil (optional)
Method:
Mix all the dry ingredients well and store in a jar. The wet ingredients are to be added only to the quantity being used.
To use: Into a small mixing bowl, add in 2-3 tbsp of the mixture and to it add in hot water or green tea in order to get the mixture to a liquid consistency. Add in the liquid castile soap and hair oil (optional for those with frizzy hair) and mix well.
Gently massage onto wet hair and leave it for 5 minutes before rinsing off.
6. Aloe Vera Shampoo
Aloe vera gel helps promote a healthy scalp. Curry leaves help increase hair growth and hair thickness.
Ingredients:
15 – 20 curry leaves
¼ cup fresh aloe vera gel
¼ cup liquid castile soap
1 cup hot water
Method:
Into a bowl, add in the curry leaves. To it, add in the hot water and let it soak overnight. Strain it the next morning to use only the water.
Then into a mixing jar, add in the curry leaves water along with the aloe vera gel and castile soap and mix well.
Use this shampoo to wash your hair like you normally would.
