Washing is good for cleaning our clothes and easing out our work, but cleaning the washing machine is as important as well. The dirty laundry that gets transformed into sparkling clean does make the washing machine stained and stinking, which if not cleaned at the right time, will get transferred on to the clothes. Cleaning the washing machine is therefore very important and we will tell you how to do that easily.
Okay so let us start off with front loading washing machines.
Front loading washing machines are considered to be energy efficient and they use less detergent compared to the top loading washing machines. Cleaning of the washing machine has to be done once in a month. The method that I am going to suggest is eco-friendly and cost effective too. Let us see the procedure.
Ingredients required:-
- Baking soda- 1/4 cup
- Vinegar- 2 cups
- Water- 1/4 cup
- Sponge
Method:-
Mix the baking soda and water in a bowl, this one will act as a detergent to clean the washing machine. Then put this mixture along with vinegar into the machine. Set your washing machine to normal load at the hottest water setting. Now close the door and start the machine. Let it do the cleaning work now. The vinegar as well as the baking soda mixture will break the mineral deposits and mould growth while cleaning the washing machine and refreshing it. Make use of a scrubber to rub off all the dirt from the washing machine if there is any stubborn dirt settled. Then wipe it with a fresh cloth.
Now for the top loading washing machine
Method: – Fill the machine with hot water. Most of the new models have self-cleaning option so if yours has one- then fill it with hot water and keep it on self-cleaning setting. Now add some chlorine bleach and then let it sit for one hour. After an hour, let the washing machine run in wash and spin cycle.
Sanitize your Washing Machine: Next add some hot water and add 1 quart distilled white vinegar and again let it sit for an hour. This process is going to clean away the bacteria, soap scum and mineral deposits in the washing machine, thanks to the bleach and vinegar that has gone in.
If you live in a place with hard water then you must ideally wash your machine every three months.
You can wash the other areas like the nooks and crannies of your washing machine with vinegar water. Just dip a sponge scrubber in the vinegar water and wipe off all the places that need to be cleaned well.
If your washing has an inbuilt dispenser, then do not forget to clean that too. Just warm 1 cup of white vinegar and pour it into the dispenser and let it sit for a few minutes that will loosen any build up. After an hour, just run the wash and spin cycle again. Your washing machine will be super clean and sparkling like new.
