DIY Natural Mosquito Spray

Several companies now make natural mosquito repellents, but most are not cheap and many of them have harmful chemicals. Luckily, here is a homemade mosquito repellent recipe that is quick, safe and inexpensive. Essential oils are known for being excellent natural insect repellents. The natural insecticidal powers of essential oils are great to repel mosquitoes.  Neem oil is a mosquito-repellent owing to its smell that wards off mosquitoes.

DIY Natural Mosquito Spray

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ oz distilled or boiled water
  • ½ oz witch hazel
  • 10 drops Lavender oil
  • 10 drops eucalyptus oil
  • 5 drops lemon essential oil
  • 1 teaspoon of neem oil
  • Glass bottle

Instructions:

  1. Take a clean dark-colored spray bottle.
  2. Fill it with distilled or boiled water. Add in witch hazel and then essential oils.
  3. Be sure to shake well before each use.
  4. Spray on the clothing. ( do not spray on your face).
  5. Unused natural insect repellent may be stored in a dark bottle, away from heat or sunlight.

Caution: Don’t go overboard with the essential oils. The oils are potent and could cause skin irritation or another reaction if you use too much. If you are taking any medication, pregnant or nursing, do not use any essential oil, until after you’ve gotten it cleared by your physician.
