Dishwasher is something every homemaker adores! Of course because it is the biggest helping hand when it comes to washing a pile of dishes; correct? No! Your dishwasher can do much more than you think. Your dishwasher isn’t just for washing dishes! There are several other household items that can enjoy a cleaning alongside your plates. Yes I know it can get a bit gross to wash your shoes in the dishwasher, but it works really well. Just make sure the heat-dry setting is turned off because it could ruin any rubber on your shoes. And, if you run an empty cycle after you washed your shoes,  that should get rid of any possible shoe to plate cross over.

CAPS OR HATS

Caps get pretty sweaty, pretty fast especially during the hot days of summer. If you throw them in the washing machine they risk getting all bent out of shape. But you can clean them in the top rack of the dishwasher without any risk of damage.

PLASTIC TOYS

Most plastic toys are dishwasher safe on the top rack. This is especially a good idea of any of the kiddos have been sick as it will not only clean them, but also sanitize. Make sure you are avoiding high heat as you don’t want them to melt.

DUSTER

Have a fabric removable duster head? It’s safe to toss in the dishwasher. And this way, it doesn’t get lost in the washing machine.

AC VENTS

Cleaning in between each grate of an AC vent is a tedious and daunting task, but it’s one that has to be done. Rather than spending hours meticulously getting each grate, throw the vent in the dishwasher. At the end of the cycle, they’ll look brand new!

DISH SPONGES

Bacteria and mould love a moist environment, and your dish sponge is a perfect setting for them to thrive. Using the “heated dry” setting in your dishwasher is an effective way to kill most of the germs and also clean it thoroughly.

HAIR BRUSHES AND TOOTHBRUSHES

Place your hair brushes and toothbrushes in the dishwasher’s top rack or the utensil basket, and make sure they are securely anchored in place before starting the cycle. Be sure to remove all hairs from the hairbrush to avoid clogging the drain filter, too. You will find your hair brushes and toothbrushes squeaky clean!

WINDOW SCREENS

Window screens are one of the toughest items in your house to keep clean. They are, after all, on the exterior of the house. You can wipe them down, but the best way to get them looking good again is the dishwasher! If tour window screen fits in the dishwasher, you are lucky enough to get it cleaned thoroughly!

ADDITIONAL TIPS:

  • Tweezers are also safe to clean in your dishwasher.
  • Give your eyebrow brush a quick cleaning and de-clumping of makeup, and add it to the silverware holder of the dishwasher once a month.
  • Mop covers can also get a quick cleaning in the dishwasher, cleaning without tons of twisting and tumbling in the washing machine, which cuts its life span.
  • The shelves of your fridge are also dishwasher safe. If they fit, add them to your load.
  • Your light switch plates could use a good cleaning. Remove them and add them to your next load of dishes.
