Whether you dye your hair globally or just do it partially, you need to know certain things for safer hair dying since you will be using chemical on your hair. A lot of us do not know few things and end up with hair problems or side effects later, or maybe stains that will make you regret hair dying. Here are few things you deserve to know before you go to a salon or do your at-home hair colour for a good wash of colour without side-effects or regrets:
THE COLOUR/SHADE
The pigmentation of what colour you choose totally depends on your natural hair colour. Blonde can pick up almost any hair colour but dark coloured hair tends to leave behind a hue of the natural hair colour. In that case, you need to first bleach your hair and then dye it- before you opt for bleaching, also know the ill effects of bleaching that are dry hair, split ends, rough hair, frizzy hair, grey hair etc. Dark haired beauties who hate bleaching should stay away from fashion colors like red, purple, pink, yellow, blue, green etc.
BUY MORE FOR AT-HOME COLOURING
The amount of hair dye concoction that you make depends on the length, volume and texture of your hair. Hair that is long, has more volume and is kind of frizzy needs more product than short, thin or naturally smooth hair. Having dyed half the hair and left with no product would be the last thing you would ever want. It is better to have extra product than to realize you need more halfway through!
USE VASELINE
Every women’s/men’s nightmare is getting stains on the forehead, neck area or around and on the ears. To avoid such drips and stains, make sure you apple vaseline near the ears, on neck and forehead. Also liberally apply moisturizer on your face in case the dye gets on other parts on your face or drips accidently.
GET THE RIGHT FORMULA
Hair coloring or dying products come in different textures and formulas, get the one that suits your hair and skin well. Foam colors are best for women with sensitive skin since it does not drip on your skin canceling out its negative effects on the skin. Women/men who have thick and/or curly hair should go with liquid or gel formulas since it reaches every inch of your hair. Normal hair can go with cream based hair colors.
STAY AWAY FROM CHLORINE
We all know ill effects of chlorine on colored hair. Chlorine makes your hair rough and unmanageable and also coats it with a mineral that does not allow proper hair dying! It also gets in the hair cuticle and alters the colour post-dying. It is important to stay clear of chlorine 20 days before and after hair colouring.
COLOUR INTENSITY
If you have naturally blonde or light colored hair, always buy one shade lighter than the colour you actually want. You never know how bright the colour would result in. Dyes usually appear darker on blonde/lighter hair.
WASH HAIR 2 DAYS BEFORE HAIR DYING
We all know that hair dyeing is going to irritate your hair surface and make it rough. When your hair is already striped off its natural oils, the effect can be damaging. Always wash your hair 2 days before hair dyeing so that sebum can make a protective layer on it until you dye it, hence less will be the damaging effects of hair dye.
