STEAM FACIAL TO DEAL WITH OILY SKINSTEP 1: CLEANSING

A good cleansing procedure is essential in removing the accumulated dirt, pollution, impurities, dead cells and bacteria from the surface of your skin. It removes the makeup residue and excess oil as well. To remove excess oils from your skin’s surface, it is extremely important to clean your face well. It helps in removing dirt, pollution and grime from your face. You must ideally use an excess oil removing cleanser to keep your skin refreshed and clean but you may also use some of the natural substitutes-

What and how to use: You may use raw cold milk, raw organic honey, aloe vera gel or papaya puree, mixture of oats and yogurt etc. to naturally cleanse your face. Give light strokes in circular motion with your finger tips and wipe with soft cotton or tissue. After wiping off the natural cleanser, wash off your face and neck with warm water. Pat dry.

STEP 2: MASSAGE

A good 15 minute massage removes dead skin cells and improves circulation giving your face a natural glow!

What and how to use: You may use half cup fresh aloe vera gel for massaging purpose. Apply on face and massage with circular motions. After the gel dries, take more and continue. Do this for 15 minutes and wash off later.

STEP 3: FACIAL STEAM

Once you’ve cleansed your face well, use a steam to open up your pores and get rid of toxins. It is extremely important to use a steam after you’ve cleansed your face and before applying a scrub to help your skin clear out well.

What and how to use: Add about a teaspoon of turmeric, 3 to 4 pieces of cinnamon powder and a tablespoon of green tea to the boiling water. Now, turn off the flame. Now by covering head with a towel, allow the steam to penetrate and work on your skin for 5-8 minutes. Close your eyes and relax. This process opens up the pores and makes your face ready for scrubbing.

STEP 4: SCRUB

Right after you’ve steamed your face, use a lightweight scrub to remove blackheads and whiteheads from your face. These do not go with cleansing and steaming your face so using a scrub is a must.

What and how to use: You may combine honey with sugar or use orange peel powder combined with water or milk to scrub your face. Apply prepared scrub on face and gently scrub with light hands for 5 minutes. Wash off the face and pat dry.

Note: You may remove blackheads or white heads before this step if required using a sterile blackhead remover stick.

STEP 5: FACE MASK

For homemade facial for oily skin, clay based masks are perfect to use as they help in removing excess oil, while making your skin look fresh and healthy.

What and how to use: Take a small bowl and add two spoons of fuller’s earth, two spoons of tomato puree and a teaspoon of fresh yogurt to it. Now mix few drops of lemon juice to this mixture and blend well until it becomes smooth. Apply this smooth mask evenly over your face and neck avoiding the eye areas. Dip two cotton pads in rose water or cucumber juice and place it over your eyes. Now relax and wait for 15 minutes until the mask dries. Don’t leave the mask for a long time as this might tighten your skin which results in fine lines. After fifteen minutes, gently wipe off the mask using wet cotton pads and wash your face with cold water. Pat dry.

STEP 5: TONER AND MOISTURIZER

Finish off using a natural toner and moisturizer. Toner closes the pores and moisturizer gives your face the much needed moisture and hydration.

What and how to use: You may use green tea combined with few drops tea tree oil and aloe vera gel as a toner and whipped coconut oil or whipped shea butter combined with almond oil as moisturizer. Apply toner using cotton balls all over the face and do not wash it off.
