4 Bad Beauty Habits That Cause Wrinkles

There are countless beauty products and tips that you hear daily from anyone and everyone. And all of us are curious to try out all of these. However, caution must be exercised before adopting these beauty habits as some of them could leave you with undesirable side effects such as wrinkles. Here are a couple of such beauty habits that are known to lie the foundation for premature skin ageing.

4 Bad Beauty Habits That Cause Wrinkles

  1. Sleeping with make-up on

Make-up is the quick fix to accentuate your looks, but that comes at a cost. Make-up can be harsh on the skin and leaving it on for too long will definitely affect the skin’s delicate balance.  Make-up also has the tendency to absorb dirt and pollutants, allowing those to settle on the skin. Removing makeup might seem like a low-priority task, especially after a long day, but the dividends it pays are high. Sleeping with cosmetics on damages the skin, inviting the signs of ageing such as wrinkles to set on earlier. Using a mild cleanser to remove the make-up, followed by moisturizer will keep the skin clean and fresh.

  1. Exfoliating too much

Exfoliation is a great way to get rid of unwanted, dead skin cells, oils, and other pollutants that tend to accumulate over the day.  Exfoliating once or twice a week is a good way to ensure clean skin, but overdoing it can be disastrous. Too much exfoliation will damage the skin’s pH balance, and rob it of its natural oils. Even if done sparingly, exfoliating too hard can also damage the skin. Care must be taken to do it softly without damaging the skin.  If the skin gets too dry, it might crack and lead to acne and wrinkles.

  1. Hot showers

Hot showers are supposed to be good for everyone. They just help you relax, ease your pains and aches and improve the mood greatly. Hot showers cleanse the skin and open up the pores. But prolonged exposure to hot temperatures are not good for the skin. They promote dehydration, thus inviting  wrinkles. The skin has a fine coating of natural oils that protect it from the external entities. Excessive exposure to hot water erodes away this layer and leaves the skin exposed premature ageing. Keep it short restricting the maximum time spent under a hot shower to 7 minutes.

  1. Using harsh cleansers

For people with oily skin, cleansers are tempting as they keep the skin clean and clear. However using your cleanser more than twice a day is known to be harmful for the skin. Excessive use, in fact, triggers the elimination of the essential natural oils too, promoting skin dehydration. The lesser the moisture level on the skin is, the higher the chances of it falling prey to ageing signs, especially wrinkles.

Beauty regimens are well and good, but they must not cause any lasting damage. So ensure that you keep the above mentioned pointers in your mind next time you try any beauty advice!
