Citronella essential oil is extracted from a grass that mainly grows in some Asian countries and some islands of the South Pacific. Citronella is a scent most of us know, but might not love. This oil has a lemony smell which is refreshing with sweet undertones but many are not a fan of this since it is widely used as an insect repellent, and how much ever an insect repellent smells sweet, no one would like its smell. apart from being an insect repellent, it has other benefits too, and here are some:<\/p>\n
INSECT REPELLENT<\/strong><\/p>\n Citronella essential oil is long known for its insect repellent properties. The lemony smell drives the mosquitoes away and since they do not like the smell, they won\u2019t come back soon.<\/p>\n To use this citronella essential oil as an insect repellent, use a few drops in a burner, vaporizer, or diffuser. Works especially well if used by an open window.<\/p>\n Caution: Be careful if used indoors, as it can adversely affect caged birds. You may place the birds in another room while you repel insects.<\/p>\n HEALTHY SKIN<\/strong><\/p>\n Citronella oil can\u00a0 keep your skin free of acne, reduce wrinkles, add a nice glow to your skin and improve the skin tone.<\/p>\n To use this oil for maintaining a healthy and clear skin, simply mix 1 tablespoon of citronella oil with 1 tablespoon of a carrier oil like coconut oil or olive oil. Though coconut oil works the best. Oil should be in liquid state. If coconut is solid, warm it a bit to liquefy. Add a cotton ball in the oil and let it soak all the oil and wipe your face with it. Let it sit overnight and wash off in the morning. Do this only if you can sleep facing upwards or else you will end up spoiling your pillow.<\/p>\n HEALTHY HAIR<\/strong><\/p>\n Citronella oil can be used to reduce the oiliness of scalp by balancing the sebum secretion, fight dandruff, soften hair, soothe itchy scalp, add volume to the hair etc.<\/p>\n To use, add few drops of this oil to any home made hair mask. You may also add this oil to coconut oil and use it as a hot oil hair treatment but make sure you add the essential oil after warming the coconut oil. Few drops of this amazing oil can be added in your shampoo before using it for a moisturizing effect and tame frizzy hair.<\/p>\n PAIN RELIEF<\/strong><\/p>\n Citronella essential oil can be used a pain reliever since it is anti-inflammatory. It can be used to relieve joint pain, muscle pain, and muscle soreness.<\/p>\n To use, add 3 drops of citronella oil on the painful region and it can do magic! However, it must be mixed with carrier oil like coconut oil or olive oil prior to massaging.<\/p>\n MOOD ENHANCER<\/strong><\/p>\n Citronella essential oil is also a great mood elevator. It is also an effective antidepressant and helps people get rid of gloominess and mental fatigue.<\/p>\n To use, add some to the essential oil diffuser and you will feel relaxed.
