Sometimes when you get your hair dyed, it just doesn’t come out the way you expected. When this happens, getting your hair back to a color you are happy with is a major priority. Hair color can sometimes go horribly wrong. Whether applied at home or the highest priced salon in town, hair color can sometimes take a bizarre detour and come out any hue. While hair color disasters are much more common at the hand of bathroom hair wizards, master colorists can sometimes have a bad color day. Yes, it happens.

"WAYSSo, what to do when you have a hair colour gone wrong? Keep reading to know:

KETCHUP TO REMOVE GREEN HAIR

Blondes may have more fun, but not when their hair turns green. A quick dip in chlorinated water or too much sun exposure is all it takes to cause an unwanted colour change. When this happens, washing hair with ketchup is a simple and quick way to cancel out green tones. It sounds crazy, but the red from the tomatoes counteracts the green tints. And the acid helps remove minerals that caused the nasty chemical colour reaction. Simply massage the ketchup into your hair with your fingertips, leave on for 20 to 30 minutes, then rinse out thoroughly with cool water.

BAKING SODA TO GET RID OF UNWANTED HAIR COLOR

The weird hues, whether it’s orangey, greenish or some other unintentionally unflattering shade, can be helped a little with at-home treatment that acts fast. Baking soda is good at stripping unwanted colour from your hair due it’s mild bleaching properties but should be combined with a thick cleaning agent like dish detergent [great for removing unwanted oils] or dandruff shampoo. Don’t go overboard on the baking soda, though, just double up on the number of times you’re washing. Aim for 3 or 4 times to start.

CLARIFYING SHAMPOO TO REMOVE HAIR DYE FROM SKIN

You got dye on your neck, forehead or ears. Before rinsing off the colour, use your pointer and middle finger (with gloves on!) and rub the hairline to break up the molecules. Then, once you’ve washed your hair, apply a dab of clarifying shampoo on the end of a wet towel and rub it into the skin to remove the colour.

EYESHADOW TO FIX GRAY ROOTS

So, you just had a fresh dye to hide your greys; but when you went home, you discovered the roots are not properly done! Well, eyeshadow can help till you go for a touchup! Try dusting a matching shade of eyeshadow on your part to hide greys. Here’s how to apply it- Take a makeup brush, dampen the bristles and dip into powder. Then, dab the shadow on your part where it’s grey. You are done!

MINERAL OIL TO REMOVE HENNA HAIR COLOR

Many people have colour disasters with henna. Not only does henna coat the hair, it is highly unpredictable for some users. If a horrid shade of henna is haunting you, reach for good old fashioned mineral oil. Saturate hair strands with a mixture of 70% alcohol applied with sterile cotton balls. Avoid the scalp area. Follow 5-10 minutes later with a coating of mineral oil. Apply the mineral oil on top of the 70% alcohol. Avoid the scalp area. Cover your new oily head with Saran or similar plastic. A plastic shower cap will also work well. Sit under a hood dryer for 30-45 minutes. If you don’t have a hood dryer, direct a heat concentrator towards the hair from your blow dryer. To remove the oil apply a little shampoo to the palms of your hands and then pat on the oil BEFORE you apply water. After you have applied the shampoo to the oil areas, turn on the shower and lather and repeat as needed. Once you have removed the henna, be sure to perform deep conditioning treatments to restore moisture to the hair.

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR TO GET RID OF DULL HAIR COLOR

If you observed dull coloured hair even after freshly colouring it, it could probably be due to product buildup! Overusing the same products can cause buildup that coats your hair. Mix one part apple cider vinegar and five parts water in a spray bottle and apply it to your scalp. Rub it in for 10 minutes, then rinse with cool water. Follow with a light conditioner and you’ll be left with shiny, soft, build-up free hair with even colour.

OIL TO FIX DRY HAIR FROM COLORING

Olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil and almond oil are your best bets here. You could either just put a few drops in your hands and rub your strands all over, or just heat up four tablespoons of olive oil using a double boiler. Take it off the stove and massage it in thoroughly. Cover your tresses with a hot towel for an hour and rinse it off.
