Bleaching your hair is an investment to say the least. Beyond the cost of actually getting the process done and the time it takes to go from dark to light!, there’s the aftercare that you might not have considered! Bleaching hair can make them prone to splits and breakage as they lose moisture and dry out. Discover tricks and tips to help strengthen and restore the health of your hair after bleaching:

"HOW

OLIVE OIL

Olive oil is a natural way to super-charge your hair with moisture. After shampooing, soak up excess water by squeezing your hair with a towel. Saturate entirely with olive oil. Wear a shower cap or plastic bag on your head to trap the heat. Leave in for 15 minutes. Rinse out completely until there is no greasy residue left. Condition, then style as usual.

SHAMPOO LESS

You shouldn’t shampoo your hair too often no matter what colour hair you have, but if you’re bleaching it, you should be even more careful. Buy yourself a shower cap so you can wash your body, and start going about three days without shampooing your hair. If it starts to look greasy or flat, just use dry shampoo.

DEEP CONDITIONING

Instead of relying on regular conditioner, start using deep conditioner at least once a week. Bleaching your hair makes it way more dry and brittle, and the only way to reverse those effects is to give your hair more moisture.

LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER/SERUM

Getting blonde hair means more brittle, weak locks. That means you need to be extra careful with your hair, especially when it’s wet. Don’t just rip a comb through wet hair. Use a leave-in conditioner of your choice when it’s wet, and then brush through your hair gently. This will give your hair more moisture and untangle any knots. I recommend using grapeseed oil serum from thebodyshop.

SAY NO TO HEAT TREATMENTS

Stop using too much heat on your hair! Styling with heat is bad for any kind of hair, especially bleached hair. Try to avoid using your blow dryer, flat iron or curling iron as much as possible. Start letting your hair dry on its own as often as you can. Putting too much heat on your hair is going to fry it even more, and leave it super damaged.

HEAT PROTECTANT SPRAY

I understand that sometimes you need to use a blow dryer, flat iron or curling wand. If you’re going to use heat styling and simply do not want to give up on it, you absolutely must use a heat protectant spray.

SUN PROTECTION

Being outdoors under the sun can leave your hair looking brittle and dehydrated. Use of hair care items containing sunblock help maintain its health. Look for hair gel, mousse, hair spray and spray-in conditioner that contain a high sun protection factor. Apply these products throughout your hair each time you will be outside in the sun or wear a hat.
