"WAYSRemoving a mascara can get really tough sometimes! I regularly use a waterproof mascara (loreal paris papillon mascara) and it literally refuses to come off sometimes especially when I have applied multiple coats.

Here are some of the tips I use for removing a thick mascara without plucking your eyelashes:

COCONUT OIL – Since the mascara is waterproof, use the opposite of water: oil. Oil breaks down the waterproof properties in your mascara, helping it slide off your lashes without too much scrubbing. Saturate a cotton pad with coconut oil. Close your eyes, and place the cotton pad underneath your lashes, then apply gentle pressure so that the underside of your lashes are pressed against the pad. Hold the lashes there for about 10 to 20 seconds, which allows the oil time to dissolve the mascara. Gently swipe the lashes with the pad until the mascara slides off. Finish by rinsing with a gentle face cleanser.

BABY SHAMPOO – Baby tear-free shampoo can be effective in the removal of waterproof mascara. Baby shampoos are usually fairly safe to use around the sensitive eye area, as most brands are colour and fragrance free, and are hypoallergenic. Use only a very small amount of baby shampoo and apply it onto your eyelashes. Avoid getting any baby shampoo directly in your eyes.

VASELINE – Using petroleum jelly is the easiest method and would work for you just like it does for me. I like to use my fingers – it’s messier, but easier to coat all your lashes that way. I just dip my index finger in the petroleum jelly (a little goes a LONG way!) and rub index finger and thumb together. Sandwich lashes between index finger and thumb. Rub and roll lashes until you get them all coated. Do the same to the bottom ones if you used the waterproof mascara on them. After you get all the lashes nice and goopy, wait about 5 minutes. It depends on the mascara and how much you applied. Then use an extra soft washcloth or cotton pad dipped in warm water. Gently wipe the petroleum jelly away. Make sure it doesn’t get in the eyes as it a gasoline-product.

MAKEUP REMOVER – There are many products on the market that are specifically designed to remove waterproof mascara. A good waterproof eye make-up remover will remove all vestiges of mascara quickly, safely and effectively. If you wear waterproof mascara a lot, investing in a good remover is definitely worth it.

CREAM – Use a brand like Pond’s Cold Cream to remove any stubborn makeup, like waterproof mascara. Cold cream is also good for removing an entire face of makeup.

OLIVE OIL – Pour olive oil on your fingers and rub your eyelashes with your index finger and thumb until your lashes are coated with oil. The mascara should then come off easily.
