HOME REMEDIES FOR SLEEP APNEA

So what exactly is sleep apnea? It is a very popular sleep disorder in which a person’s breathing is stopped or involuntarily interrupted while sleeping. This can occur several times at night and can keep you from sleeping. It is caused due to blocked or narrowed airways in the throat, nose or mouth. Several home remedies work effectively for preventing and treating this problem and here are some of them:

BLACK PEPPER+ HONEY

Black pepper here is the main ingredient that helps free up the airways.

To use: All you need to do is add 1/4 tsp black pepper powder to 1 glass of hot water. Add 1 tsp honey to it and mix well. Sip it hot before you go to bed.

CINNAMON

Cinnamon has sedative properties that help with the sleep apnea problem.

To use:  You can prepare a paste of cinnamon powder and water. Just apply it on your forehand and chest and leave it on for a few minutes, then rinse it off with water. You can also drink cinnamon tea before bedtime. To make this tea, add a medium-size cinnamon stick to 1 cup of hot water. Also add 1 teaspoon of grated ginger and Boil it for a few minutes, strain and add some honey.

GARLIC

Garlic is anti-inflammatory in nature that helps to reduce inflammation in the respiratory system thus making breathing easier.

To use: Before bedtime, chew on a raw garlic. Follow with a glass of water.

STEAM

Sleep apnea related to cold and nasal congestion can be treated with steaming before bedtime.

To use: Take some hot boiling water in a bowl and add eucalyptus essential oil to it. Put a lid on the bowl for few minutes. Open the lid, take a towel on your head and inhale the steam. You may do this in the morning and at night too for better results.

GHEE/CLARIFIED BUTTER

Clarified butter or ghee is an effective treatment for all respiratory problems including sleep apnea according to Ayurveda.

To use: All you need to do is warm up the clarified butter/ghee in microwave. Take 1/4 teaspoon of a ghee with a teaspoon of honey.
