Should you be using hot or cold water on your skin?Well, firstly let me tell you there are plenty of myths associated with this. To start off, the skin pores does not open and close. So for those who have read about hot water to open pores and cold water to close pores have no scientific theory to support it. The fact is that too hot and too cold water will irritate the skin. The right way is to use water which is the “in between” temperature. Some dermatologist are of the opinion that warm water cleanses the skin well meanwhile another one says that excessive use of hot water will take off the natural oils from the skin.

It is completely dependent on the individual as to what is too hot or too cold according to each person’s heat sensitivity. Lukewarm water is ideal for all however if you love cold water then it is recommended that you go for cool water rinse at the end.

It is not that cold water is absolute no-no for us. Cold water has its benefits which are as follows:

Why hot water or hot shower is not good for the skin?

Hot water can strip out the skin’s natural resistance against irritants as well as dryness. It can also speed up various skin condition such as eczema, dandruff, acne and psoriasis.

Constant use of hot water on face and skin can cause wrinkles in the long run as it makes your skin dry.

If you have dry skin, it is better you stay away from hot water when it comes to skincare. Whereas if you have oily skin it is fine to use hot water as it helps you to get rid of excess oil from the skin.

So the point is lukewarm water is best in general and warm water is good to cleanse if you have oily skin and for all those lovely ladies with dry skin, you better stay away from warm water. Cool water or water with normal temperature is great for you.
