Hair is made up of the same protein as our fingernails- keratin. Just as a fingernail can chip and crack, hair can easily be damaged. Heat damage to hair is typically caused by blow dryers, curling and flat irons, UV rays from the sun and chemicals in relaxers and perms. We already know the effects of heat on hair but we still tend to use these nasty treatments in order to look good and regret later over heat damaged hair! not to worry anymore, here I am with the top remedies for heat damaged hair:
SANDALWOOD OIL HAIR TREATMENT
Mix a few drops of sandalwood oil with a few drops of olive or jojoba oil, rub the mixture between your palms, then smooth it through the ends of your hair for instant sleekness and a way to curb and condition brittle, flyaway hair. Alternately, squirt a few drops of hand lotion in your palm and smooth it through damaged hair.
COCONUT HOT OIL TREATMENT
Coconut oil is the best remedy for heat treated hair; even for permanently straightened hair! It conditions your scalp and hair and strengthens hair follicles too.
How to use: Wet your hair, rub coconut oil into your hair and scalp. Put on a shower cap, then wrap you head in a good towel. Let it soak into your hair and scalp for an hour or so. Then shampoo it out with a gentle shampoo.
AVOCADO HAIR MASK
Avocados are rich in vitamins, essential fatty acids, and minerals that will help restore luster to your hair.
How to use: Mash a ripe avocado (pit removed) with one egg, then apply this home remedy to wet hair. Leave on for at least 20 minutes, then rinse several times. Repeat once a week for damaged hair and once a month for healthy hair.
ALOE VERA HAIR REPAIR
Aloe vera is good for repairing heat damaged hair. Its humectant properties can soothe the hair shaft. It also contains enzymes, amino acids, and vitamins C and E that are good for your hair.
Remedy 1: Apply some aloe vera juice directly on your damaged hair. Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes, then wash it off with warm water.
Remedy 2: Alternatively, mix 4 tablespoons of aloe vera gel, 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and 3 tablespoons of plain yogurt. Stir it well and apply it on your hair. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes, then rinse it off and wash your hair with a mild shampoo.
BANANA HAIR REMEDY
Bananas can also help repair heat damaged hair. The high potassium, fortifying vitamins, natural oils and moisture content in bananas can help soften your hair and improve its elasticity.
Remedy 1: Mash 1 ripe banana and work it thoroughly into your hair. Allow it to sit for 1 hour, then rinse it off with lukewarm water.
Remedy 2: Alternatively, prepare a hair mask by blending together 2 overripe bananas with 1 tablespoon each of coconut oil, honey and olive oil. Apply this paste on your hair, leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes and then rinse it off with warm water.
