ICE CUBE TRAY HACKS – GENIUS WAYS YOU TO USE THEM

An ice cube tray is great for making miniature desserts, storing things like herbs or stock for easy use later on, and making unique ice cubes for cold drinks. Plastic or silicone ice cube trays will cost you about a dollar for three and you may be amazed at what you can actually do with them. There are things however that you can do with those trays and many of those things have absolutely nothing to do with food! Read on to know some amazing ice cube tray hacks:

CLEVER AND CREATIVE ICE CUBE TRAY HACKSHOMEMADE SALAD DRESSINGS AND CODIMENTS

We all know that homemade salad dressing tastes better. But we also know that unscrewing a jar is a lot easier than whipping up a salad dressing each time (and then throwing most of it away). Solution? Make a big batch of dressing or other condiments and freeze them in ice-cube trays, then pull out a couple of cubes whenever needed.

CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRIES

Make a mess free chocolate covered strawberry treats. Fill the ice cube tray cubes half way with melted dark chocolate, then gently press in the berries and freeze it for an hour.

JEWELLERY BOX

Sick of doing the jewellery box rummage for that matching earring or favourite super-fine chain? Now every pair of earrings, ring and bracelet can have its very own home in a sectioned off ice-cube tray. Just pop it into your dresser drawer and scratch your head as to why you never thought of it earlier.

CLEANERS FOR GARBAGE DISPOSAL

Just place a lemon slice in each slot and then fill over the lemon with vinegar. These will freeze in just a couple of hours and then you can take them out of the tray and store in a Ziploc bag in the freezer. Just drop a cube or two down the disposal and run water over them whenever you want a fresh, clean smelling garbage disposal.

SEED BOMBS

Seed bombs are great for sprucing up your outdoors. If you have areas that are otherwise lacking in colour, you can just throw a few seed bombs on them and they will begin to grow loads of beautiful colours to cover up those otherwise boring areas. You can use ice cube trays to help you to shape the seed bombs and to keep all of the ingredients inside until they mould properly. If you want to add a little colour to your outdoors this spring, these ice cube tray seed bombs are a must.

BERRY FIZZERS

Ready to make a splash? Pop a couple blueberries or blackberries into each ice cube tray slot and fill the remainder with plain or flavoured seltzer. Once frozen, add the fizzy chillers to seltzer or juice for a fancy, but budget-friendly, mocktail.

WINE CUBES

White wine makes for a refreshing summer sipper, but a warm version? No thanks. Chill that wine with 100 percent wine cubes (it’s as easy as pouring and freezing). For an even fancier variety, freeze champagne for a lightly fizzed wine that’s perfect for sangria.

COFFEE CUBES

On a sweltering day, there’s nothing better than an iced coffee to cool off (and caffeinate). For a non-diluted morning jolt, pop in two to three java cubes per cup. Simply brew two cups of coffee and let them cool to room temperature, then pour and freeze (you can also customize them with milk and sweetener before freezing).

COCONUT CUBES

Freeze coconut water in ice trays. Pop the cubes into your favorite water bottle for a refreshing flavored water filled with all-natural combo of nutrients, like potassium and sodium

MINI POPSICLES

It’s the guilt-free icy treat – how could anything so small be naughty? From leftover smoothies to yoghurt, fruit juice or cordial, anything can be frozen and – with the addition of a strategically placed mini popstick- be transformed into a popsicle!
