Holi Hai!! Yes I know you all are pepped up for Holi with your outfit, hairstyle and accessories intact and why not Holi is the festival to let your hair down and enjoy. Play Holi and spread the colors of happiness all around but just a few tips before and after playing Holi can save your skin and hair from unnecessary abuse.

Well, as I stay in Mumbai I had enjoyed playing Holi the most last year but my happiness turned into a misery the very next day! I got a sudden breakout on my face and rashes on skin. That was when I learnt about the side effects of playing Holi, the powder and how by being a little cautious I could have avoided all this melancholy. To cut the story short, I want my beloved readers to stay safe and take care so here are some very useful tips to follow.

Excellent Pre and Post Skin and Hair Care Tips for HoliThe colors that are used during Holi contain harsh chemicals which can easily lead to skin allergies, breakouts and damaged hair. So a pre-Holi skin and hair care regimen is the call of the hour.

Skin:

Pre-Holi care:

  • Coconut oil- 1 tbsp
  • Olive oil-1 tbsp
  • Castor oil-1 tsp

Make a mixture of these oils and apply it all over your skin before playing Holi. Do not forget ears and other exposed areas.

Do not forget to use sunscreen all over your face and body  and avoid putting makeup. You can also make a olive oil body mist to mist the oil on your body.

Post Holi care:

Avoid the use of soaps or face washes as they are alkaline in nature, they will dry your skin. Instead take pure almond oil or coconut oil and massage it on your skin. Then take damp cotton and remove the colors. Once the colors are off take a cold or lukewarm shower and after that moisturize your skin well. If your skin is dry and itchy then massage aloe vera gel before shower.

Hair:

Pre Holi care

  1. The chemicals in the Holi powder can leave your hair dry and damaged. So we recommend your tie your hair up or braid it so that you are in vogue with your hairstyle and your hair is protected at the same time.
  2. Cover your hair with a bandana if it is short.
  3. Oil your hair with the same oil meant for skin by adding a few drops of lemon juice to avoid dandruff or else here is another great mixture.
  • Few drops of Rosemary oil
  • 1 tbsp of Jojoba oil / olive oil or coconut oil

Take equal amount of both the oils and apply it on the scalp using your finger tips. This will prevent the colors from settling into the scalp. On the hair you can make coconut a coconut oil hair mist to not only protect your hair but also add an amazing shine to your hair.

Post Holi care:

First rinse your hair with slight warm or cold water this will help to wash off the color easily. Use a herbal or mild shampoo and conditioner while washing the colors off your hair. Make sure it is paraben and SLS free.

We suggest you use a deep conditioner mask prior to washing your hair.

  • Olive oil-1/2 tbsp.
  • Coconut oil-1 tbsp.
  • Honey – 1 tsp
  • yogurt – 1 tsp

Make a mixture of these ingredients and leave it for 1 hour and wash your hair. Hair will not only be thoroughly washed but will also be smooth, shiny and soft.

Lips: Protect your lips with a lip balm, we suggest a lip balm with SPF.

Tip: Use skin-friendly vegetable or natural colors instead of synthetic colors and powdered dyes.
