TRAVEL SKINCARE AND HAIRCARE TIPS

TRAVEL SKIN AND HAIRCARE TIPSTravelling not on creates havoc for your skin but also your hair. Change in climate, water, food and frequent exposure to the sun and environment which might contain a lot of dirt; and change in regular skin care/haircare routine contributes to dull skin and hair.

You certainly need to keep the following things in mind whether you are going on a long trip or a small train journey, either by car or a bus!

SKINCARE TIPS:

  • Prepare yourself for moisture loss, breakouts from humidity or strong winds. If you’re traveling to drier weather, you want to replenish the moisture in your skin without weighing it down with heavy creams. Go for serums and lightweight moisturizers. If you’ll be in humid weather, exfoliate your skin to get rid of dead skin cells and use a cleanser with salicylic acid.
  • You may skip foundation on the day of your trip, and instead wear only moisturizer. Before you rich, add a tinted moisturizer for a fresh, healthy look!
  • To refresh makeup while traveling, never glob on more foundation or blush. Instead, use a mister of mineral water and add a dab of moisturizer.

  • Look into finding sample or travel size versions of your favourite skin care items. Only pack what matters because you’ll likely be able to get things like soap and lotion at your hotel, and you’ll have more room for your must-haves!
  • If you’re traveling to a climate that your skin is not used to or you’re trying new skin care products, you can always prep your skin a few days ahead. Start using your new skin care products about three days before your departure date so your skin starts getting acclimated. Your skin likes routines and will look its best when you stick to the basics.
  • To keep oily skin from getting out of control while traveling, bring blotting papers or rice papers and dab the “T” zone as often as necessary.
  • Avoid using any harsh products before or while you travel. You don’t want to use any products that can cause an unexpected breakout or cause irritation while you’re on the road. Avoid any harsh peels, skin resurfacing treatments or acids.

HAIRCARE TIPS:

  • Plan ahead for your hair care. Is this a relaxing trip or will you be going out a lot? Knowing your style of travel will help you decide what you need to do with your hair. It’s the best to avoid hair styling but if you have some function to attend you might carry your hair styling products and tools along.
  • Book a blow-dry for when you arrive. Often hotels have salons, or ask them to recommend one nearby. They may even have a stylist who can come to your room. Going to a salon saves you bringing a lot of products and tools.
  • Spend a little time researching what the weather will be like where you’re heading and use that to help you decide which products to bring.
  • Keep a leave in conditioner spray in your beach bag. Salt (and chlorine) can dry your hair out so rinse your hair and seal it with a leave in conditioner.
  • Slather your hair with oil/moisturizer before going into salt or chlorinated water. The idea is to let your hair absorb that so it can’t absorb damaging chlorine/salt.
  • Just as you would with your skin you need to put protection on your hair. Either with a hat, head scarf or some UV protecting spray.
