Tea tree oil has powerful antiseptic properties that are very effective in fighting many conditions. Tea tree oil contains two major elements – 1,8-cineole and terpinen-4-ol. These two elements have insecticidal properties which help in killing head lice. This lice treatment using tea tree oil is completely natural and can treat lice as well as prevent it.
Tea Tree Oil Hair Spray for Head Lice –
Fill a spray bottle with water. Add 3 – 4 drops of tea tree oil into it along with a teaspoon of aloe vera gel.
Shake well and spray the solution onto the scalp. Leave it on overnight.
The following morning, the hair can be combed through to remove the dead lice.
You can follow this procedure by washing the hair with a shampoo and conditioner containing tea tree oil.
Repeat the process regularly until the lice are completely gone.
Tips and Precautions –
- Make sure to patch tea tree oil to rule out potential allergic reactions.
- To prevent spread or re-infestation, also be sure to wash your infected child’s clothes, bedding and stuffed animals with soap, hot water and tea tree oil.
- Pregnant and lactating women should avoid using tea tree oil.
