Start with a base of arrowroot powder (1 tsp. for dark skin – 1 Tbs. for light skin). Add in the combination of the cocoa powder, cinnamon, or nutmeg until you reach your desired tone. If you want to make a “compact” foundation, add some jojoba/olive/almond oil to the mixture and press down into a compact. Use a brush to apply this homemade foundation. Make sure to tap off excess before application.
Take a tbsp of cinnamon, a tsp of nutmeg and a tsp of cocoa powder, add it to arrowroot powder. Adjust the levels of ingredients to your shade and mix well in a small bowl, until it’s smooth. Place the powder in a clean, empty compact and pack it in firmly.
To make an eyeliner, mix equal parts of coconut oil and shea butter (about 1/2 ounce of each) and add about 1/2 tsp of activated charcoal to make a black eyeliner that is thicker. You can also do this with cocoa powder for a brown hue.
DIY LIP GLOSS
To make a red lip gloss, you need ¼ cup beeswax, ¼ cup castor oil and 2 tablespoons beet juice or beet powder. Melt beeswax, remove from heat and add oils. Add as much beet juice as desired for colour. Store in a jar.
DIY NATURAL BLUSH
To make this blush, you need 1/2 teaspoon Arrowroot powder, 1/2 teaspoon Hibiscus Powder or beet powder and an air-tight container for storage. You will have to experiment with quantities of each ingredient to find the right shade for your skin tone. Always start with a base of about 1/2 tsp of arrowroot and then darken as needed, testing on your skin as you go.
