Most of the times, we take care of our face by following a good skin care regimen, but the body is often neglected. Dry, scaly skin, tanned elbows and foot, daily travel in pollution, all make our body skin dry and lifeless. Body polishing treatments have now become popular in many spas and parlours. But you don’t have to spend a fortune every now and then for that. You can easily do a salon-like body polishing session at home. Below is the detailed step by step instructions for that.
- Coconut oil / Sesame oil / Olive oil
- Gram flour
- Grounded Masoor dal / Orange peel
- Lemon juice
- 1 ripe papaya
- 2 cucumbers
- 2 towels
- Essential oils (optional)
STEP 1 – Oil Massage: Heat up a bowl of oil. You can use any oil – coconut oil, sesame oil or olive oil as per your choice or even a mix of all three. You can also add some essential oils if you wish. Apply the warm oil all over your body and massage in circular movements. Concentrate on the areas like joints, back and neck where you feel sore and stressed. Relax for 10-15 mins.
STEP 2 – Steam: Soak a towel in hot water and wrap around your body for a steaming effect and to open up the pores. Take another towel soaked in hot water and massage gently on your lower body – knees, calves, ankles and heels. (CAUTION: Be careful. Check the temperature of the hot water to see if it is bearable.)
STEP 3 – Body Scrub: Make a mixture of gram flour, salt, sugar and lemon juice mixed with finely ground masoor dal or orange peel. Add few drops of any essential oil. Scrub all over your body gently. Focus more on knees, elbows and heels to remove dead skin cells. Wait for 5 minutes and wash off with warm water. This step will detoxify the body of impurities and helps in tan removal.
STEP 4 – Body Mask: Blend the papaya and curd into a smooth paste and apply a thick layer all over your body. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and then wash off. This adds a nice glow and smoothness to you skin.
STEP 5 – Toning: As the final step, blend two cucumbers and filter the juice. Apply the cucumber juice all over your body. Wait for 2 minutes for it to get absorbed. Don’t rinse off. This will close the pores and make your skin soft and toned.
STEP 6 – Moisturize: Finally, slather some body butter generously all over your body as your skin tends to be dry from scrubbing. Never skip moisturizing as it is one of the key steps to prevent your skin from wrinkles and dullness.
- The entire process will take around 45 minutes to an hour. So light some candles and switch on some relaxing music.
- It is better to do the process at night for a relaxing and sound sleep.
- Try to follow this once a week or once in ten days for smooth, glowing skin.
